Xhosa Cultural Experience
Step into the heart of South African culture and experience the warmth, energy, and community spirit of Langa Township — Cape Town’s oldest township and a place rich in history, resilience, and tradition.
The township, called Langa (meaning “sunshine” in isiXhosa), is located on the outskirts of the city. It was formed in the 1920s, to accommodate migrant labours and during the Apartheid era of segregation, to house the majority of black folks who healed from the countryside looking for work and farm workers in the area. Langa is a community where the spirit of Ubuntu — “I am because we are” — is still deeply felt. Despite life’s challenges, the people of the township are known for their warmth, hospitality, and strong sense of togetherness, welcoming visitors with open arms.
South African "townships" are best known for their vibrant atmosphere! We seek to offer visitors with an immersive and authentic introduction to the traditions, heritage and contemporary life of the Xhosa people. Our Xhosa Cultural Experience is an initiative designed to educate visitors about Xhosa Culture preservation and celebration of traditions, language and heritage of its people; the experience aims to foster unity, promote inclusivity and bridge cultural gaps in our diverse society.
It gives visitors the opportunity to connect with local people and experience everyday township life through authentic cultural exchange. Guided by passionate local hosts, this experience is designed for culturally curious travellers and is about more than sightseeing — we combine traditions, storytelling, language, music, arts, crafts, cuisine and meaningful community engagement in a responsible tourism framework which displays the vibrant atmosphere that makes Xhosa culture so unique. It is about meaningful connection, shared experiences, and gaining a genuine understanding of the people, culture, and heritage of South Africa.
Come and experience the true sense of these areas through its people. Share in the sounds, flavours, stories, and spirit of township life, and leave with memories and connections that will stay with you long after your visit. Meet knowledgeable local guide/host and we will ensure you will have a profound human experience.
