Eastern Cape Voluntourism
Kwanda Voluntourism is built on the belief that volunteering should be about sharing, connection, and mutual learning rather than simply giving. Our programmes create meaningful opportunities for visitors and local communities to learn from one another while contributing to positive and sustainable community development.
Founded by Zoliswa Samantha Mtinini, Kwanda Voluntourism was inspired by her experience working as a township tour guide in Cape Town. She recognised that many township tours focused only on poverty and brief sightseeing, without creating genuine human connection or meaningful engagement with local communities. Kwanda was created to offer a different approach — one that allows visitors to truly experience the culture, people, and everyday life of the township and rural Eastern Cape while making a positive impact.
Through arts, music, sport, education, and community projects, Kwanda Voluntourism helps support local initiatives while creating authentic cultural exchange and lasting relationships between people from different backgrounds.
Volunteering with Kwanda is a rewarding and personal experience, giving visitors the opportunity to work alongside local communities, share skills and knowledge, and become part of something meaningful.
Volunteer Opportunities Include
Volunteer support at a local pre-school
Spend time with children aged 2–5 years by reading storybooks, helping with activities, assisting with meals, playing games, and supporting teachers with daily tasks.
Community Food Gardening
Work alongside local residents in community gardens that promote food security and sustainable living.
Youth Development Programmes
Support youth initiatives focused on sports, arts, music, and community empowerment.
Programme Duration Options
- Full Day Programme: 8am-5pm (minimum)
- One Week Programme: 5 days (Monday-Friday)
- Two Week Programme: 7–14 days (maximum)
